This test is typically ordered when a person has symptoms of inflammatory diarrhea such as fever, blood or mucus in the stool, stomach cramping or loose watery stool. If you have leukocytes in your stool, it can be a sign of a bacterial infection that affects the digestive system.
Preparation: No special preparation for this test is needed. If you take Barium, please refrain from ingesting it for 7 days before specimen collection.
